A rumour is circling the Formula 1 paddock that there is a new team formed for the 2018 season. According to Auto Motor und Sport, the team has its base in England but the money and resources come from China. It may be false, but there are concrete indications that a new team is on the horizon.

Red Bull team principal Christian Horner stated: "A number of our employees were asked whether they would come to work for a new team. But, if they want to join as early as next year, they are actually too late."

Not much is known about the new squad. The headquarters is located in Oxfordshire, surrounded by other teams like Mercedes, Renault, Force India, Haas F1, Williams and Red Bull Racing. Chinese investors take charge of the funding bill. It is assumed that former team members of Manor Racing would have already joined the project.

However, there has been no official application for a license. Ross Brawn, sporting director of F1 said: "In recent months, about ten parties asked us about the conditions for a license. They all wanted to know how we are planning to distribute income more fairly across all of the teams. We replied that we are bound by existing contracts until 2020."

Most likely the Chinese investors working with Ron Dennis, first to keep him in place at McLaren and later during the failed last-minute takeover of Manor.
Guess they still want a seat at the F1-table

rumour has it that RD HAS bought manor but there were legal issues that prevented him or anyone else from issuing a statement. if that IS the case, then they wont need to apply for a license as they already have one (that lasts for 3 years after the team has closed down in case there is a rescue bid taking place). i dont know if my source is telling me the truth, but he hasnt steered me wrong before

I'd love to see it, as long as it's not gonna be a new Manor team, so to speak

  • Its so out of fashion for Ron Dennis to Join this late. Hopefully, it not another re-incarnation of Manor for that last spot and 30+ million payment from F1 management.

  • Doubt if RD nearly 70 years of age will want to start again, it takes 10 years to be a winner even if your are RD and he knows better than anyone how hard it is, although maybe there will be a cheap Honda engine going, and he knows Honda well so ya never know!!

  • Just form a team by Chinese engineers by majority and give it 3 full seasons by the 4th they will have copied everything from rivals with perfection and improve it,. That's the Chinese copy pasting skills for you but they don't just copy paste they improve and then go on to out innovate. This all mostly true for most east Asians. However this seems just a case of Chinese investors which is nothing more than a meh attempt TBH.
