Fernando Alonso will be first to drive McLaren's 2018 car in Barcelona. Pre-season testing gets underway in just two weeks, with eight days of running around the Circuit de Cataluyna.
Alonso also drove McLaren's car on day one last year, but was limited to just 29 laps due to an oil leak. Towards the end of the 2017 season, McLaren announced that it would be separating from Honda after three seasons of underwhelming results, and formed up a partnership with Renault.
Alonso's teammate Stoffel Vandoorne will drive the car on day two of the first week of testing. McLaren will unveil its new machine on February 23 via an online presentation. It is rumoured that the Woking-based squad will run with a papaya livery.
With the introduction of Renault engines into its package, racing director Eric Boullier says the team needs to be careful about predictions: "We need to make sure that there are no strong comments and we keep just one line: which is under-promise and over-deliver. That is the key."
