Pirelli director of Motorsport Paul Hembery has said that Silverstone will be the ultimate test for the drivers to exploit their physical abilities in the new cars.
2017 sees another regulation change, this time the focus being on aerodynamics and cornering speed. This will bring higher G-Force levels which will test the strength of the drivers.
Hembery says that he is excited by the change and has pointed to Silverstone, which will be the "real event" for the drievrs.
"I am excited because it is a change, it is different and it is going to be more of a challenge for drivers, which they wanted,” Hembery said. “They are going to feel one extra G in the corners, 25mph quicker in some corners, flat out in six or seven corners at Silverstone, which will be the real event for the drivers. Silverstone is so quick and open and the corners are already big corners, it will be the one the drivers are excited about.”
Drivers will experience the new cars for the first time at the end of this month when pre-season testing gets underway in Barcelona on February 27th.
