Sebastian Vettel to Mercedes in 2018?

Published on 15 Dec 2016 13:20

Sebastian Vettel coud be in line for a move to Mercedes in 2018.

Whoever gets Nico Rosberg's seat at the Silver Arrows for 2017 will only be given a one year deal according to Sport Bild, opening up the possibility of Fernando Alonso or Sebastian Vettel moving to the team after their contracts with McLaren and Ferrari respectively expire at the end of next year.

Gerhard Berger, who negotiated Rosberg's contract renewal with Mercedes before the German opted to retire thinks that Vettel could be the one to make the move.

"Suddenly Ferrari is feeling the pressure," said Berger. "Sebastian will closely monitor their progress and take his time in renewing his contract."

"I'm sure deep down he wants the chance to go with Mercedes in 2018," he added. "So Ferrari need to try to keep Vettel happy, so they don't lose him."
