Daniil Kvyat wants drivers to vote on the halo

Daniil Kvyat has called for a vote on the introduction of the 'halo' head protection system.

The controversial device was scrapped for 2017 as the teams voted against it, but it still may be introduced in 2018 as the sport looks to increase driver safety after the recent fatalities of Justin Wilson and Jules Bianchi.

Both passed away due to head injuries suffered by crashes in IndyCar and F1 respectively.

"We are discussing it [the halo]. Maybe some are neutral, some are pro and some are against," Kvyat said, when asked for an update on talks.

"There are 22 drivers, 22 different personalities, and it's a discussion, but I think they should let us vote or something, to see the opinion [of the drivers], without digging too deep."

Kvyat added that the decision has been complicated due to the changing minds of some drivers.

"It's not very consistent," he said of drivers' comments on the halo.

"Sometimes it seems like most of the drivers are for it, and sometimes some are more neutral, but I haven't been following the trend too much, it's not my favourite topic.

"I think the final decision is with the FIA, but if they want to know drivers' opinions, they shouldn't just be asking for words, they should get the vote, two options – yes or no."
