Kevin Magnussen keen to remain in F1 despite IndyCar link

Kevin Magnussen has reiterated his desire to remain in Formula One, despite fresh rumours linking him to a move to IndyCar.

The Dane's future is currently uncertain, with Renault set to sign either Valtteri Bottas or Esteban Ocon to race alongside the recently-signed Nico Hulkenberg. Magnussen is thought to be in talks with Force India to fill Hulkenberg's vacant seat, but Andretti Autosport are also said to be interested in taking him over to America to compete in IndyCar.

However, the former McLaren driver took to Twitter to diffuse any speculation that he could be about to make the move across the pond.

"Seeing rumours around about me in IndyCar," Magnussen said. "I'm a big fan of IndyCar but those are really just rumours. [There's] nothing to it.

"I feel confident my future is in Formula 1 and there should be no doubt I intent to stay with Renault Sport for many years if I can," he added.

This isn't the first time Magnussen has been linked with a move to IndyCar. The former-Formula Renault 3.5 champion was all set for a move to a Honda-powered team last season before a late call to replace the injured Fernando Alonso at the 2015 Australian Grand Prix scuppered his plans.

Former Formula One driver Takuma Sato is also being linked with a move to Andretti Autosport for 2017.

  • It'd be nice to see him stay, he is a pretty good driver.
