Kevin Magnussen admits to struggles with F1 politics and lifestyle

Kevin Magnussen has admitted that Formula One's political environment does not suit him.

The Dane is currently facing an uncertain future with his Renault team signing Nico Hulkenberg and Valtteri Bottas looking likely to join him, leaving Magnussen with the prospect of once again being without a drive.

Magnussen made his F1 bow for McLaren in 2014 but was ousted after just one year to make way for Fernando Alonso.

"I'm really bad at the political game," the 24-year-old told the Danish business newspaper Dagbladet Borsen.

"I'm a racing driver, not a politician, so I don't try to go out and get voters on my side. I'm here to race and drive fast, which is what I enjoy and what I feel I'm good at."

Magnussen, whose father Jan also raced in F1, also admitted that he struggles with the nomadic lifestyle.

"Every time I leave my family I think 'Is it worth it?' It's hard to be away so much.

"But when you are not winning, and things are not going as you would like, as is the case right now, you have those thoughts more often. But if one day I stand at the top of the podium, I will know it was all worth it," he said.

Bye Magnussen. Good driver, but like some others, too light weighted for F1. And boring as hell.
