Sebastian Vettel has downplayed the impact of lapped traffic after he missed out on a podium finish in the Japanese Grand Prix.
The Ferrari driver appeared frustrated by drivers being shown blue flags after a number of radio outburts were broadcasts.
However, following the race, Vettel admitted that the lapped traffic didn't have a major influence on the result of his race.
"We always seem to catch [backmarkers] in corners, where it's difficult to move over, so we lose time," he said.
"We should have come out ahead of Lewis, so the backmarkers lost us track position, but looking at the final gap it didn't really matter. Our target was P2, not P3.""Everybody is doing their own race, I think I just ran into them too late," he said.
"Lewis managed to pass [traffic] on the straights. I always seemed to lose a little bit, because when I caught them they were going up the hill and through corners."
