Gerhard Berger insists he is impartial when it comes to choosing a winner of the 2016 Formula One world championship, despite heading negotiations for Nico Rosberg's Mercedes contract extension earlier this year.
Speaking to a broadcaster in his homeland of Austria, the former McLaren and Ferrari driver said that he is just interested in the sport again now.
"For me, it is now about the sport again. May the better one win," Berger told Servus TV.
However, he did admit that it is Rosberg who has the upper-hand right now.
"That Nico can win is a big message to the outside," he said, "because Lewis (Hamilton) is a tough nut - one of the best I've seen. Incredibly fast, incredibly aggressive."
When asked if he thinks Rosberg can keep his advantage until the end of the season, Berger answered: "Of course he can.
"He had the chance two years ago and lost it only in the last race. This year he has that chance again.
"But Lewis is of course not to be underestimated. He could suddenly explode once again. Of course, he also has his weaknesses, like in the last race, so we will have to wait and see who is ahead at the end," Berger added
