Williams' performance engineer Rob Smedley has said that the team would be making a mistake if they were to only focus on beating Force India to fourth in the constructors' standings.
Much has been made of the two team's fight for fourth place, and Williams recently lost the spot to their Silverstone-based rivals, but Smedley insists that Williams must go to each race focussing on the whole field and improving, rather than just looking at Force India.
"I don't think you should ever do that," Smedley told Autosport. "I think that's a huge mistake."
"You've got to go out and get the absolute best result possible and not focus on any competitor, but focus on all the competitors," he continued. "I've been in situations where we've been fighting other teams for world championships, and you make a huge mistake when you start to concentrate on one single competitor."
"You've got to be absolutely aware of what everybody's doing and ensure that you get the best result possible."
