Kevin Magnussen has admitted he has been in contact with other teams because Renault is yet to sign him up for the 2017 season. After the McLaren experience, the Dane returned to the grid this year with the new works Renault team, but the French outfit is believed to be toying with an all-new lineup for 2017 featuring Esteban Ocon and Sergio Perez.

So when asked if he has any other options, Magnussen told Ekstra Bladet newspaper at Spa: "I think other seats will be available if I don't get this one, but that's not where my focus is. I will wait a little longer on what is happening here," he added. Asked if he has had any talks with other teams, Magnussen admitted: "Yes, I have."

But for now, he said his focus is on ensuring his performances are top notch in all of the remaining races this year. "Something I've learned in formula one is that people in the paddock have very short memories," said the 23-year-old. "If you have a really good run, suddenly you're the best in the world, but if not, then you are on the way out because you're not good enough. In F1, everything changes so quickly." (GMM)

I hope Renault signs Magnussen for the next two seasons. He has so much talent, and when the car is more competative, Magnussen will win a lot of races. Magnussen is a future World Champion, and Renault are lucky to have him on their team.

    • Looking at your flag, I'm afraid your opinion is not an objective one... Kev is a great guy, like him a lot, but he's no champ. McLaren knew that and I think Renault will draw the same conclusion.

He's good, but he's not THAT good. Under the right circumstances I do believe he can be a world champion, but that goes for a lot of guys. He is not somebody who can make the car better than it is, like (a motivated) Alonso or Schumacher etc.
He started out really well with McLaren and Renault, but then when the honeymoon was over, so to speak, he seemed to buckle under pressure.
The fact that he didn't have a backup plan while driving for McLaren waqs ridiculous. And history seems to be repeating itself once again, although this time he at least tries to make it seem like there is one

  • Renault could use some stability at the moment, so it could be wise to keep KMag. He is skilled enough to deserve a seat. Honestly I dont think they have a reason to replace either of their drivers: their car is far from optimal, so I dont really think its fair to judge their drivers this season. Next season sure, but not this one.
