Sachsenring has entered the frame to host the German Grand Prix according to reports.
The race is currently alternated between the Nurburgring and Hockenheim. Financial difficulties meant that the Nurburgring was unable to host the event last year while Hockenheim struggled to sell trickets this weekend.
Germany's Auto Bild is now reporting that the Sachsenring could be Germany's F1 saviour, with Formula One supremo apparently interested in the circuit hosting the race as early as next year, although it would need some modifications to meet FIA requirements.
"That would be great," German TV pundit Marc Surer said. "The Sachsenring is an excellent race track and could attract many spectators that would otherwise probably not go to a Formula One race," .
Hockenheim and the Nurburgring are still though to be in the running for a 2017 German GP although perhaps with a fee increase.
However, reports indicate that Ecclestone may have dropped his fee with races in Canada, Brazil and even the new-for-2016 race in Azerbaijan in doubt.
