Red Bull will not be renewing the contract of Toro Rosso driver Daniil Kvyat, according to the claims of Russian news agency Izvestia, who cite a source close to the energy drink firm.
This comes after the company's motorsport advisor Dr. Helmut Marko and Toro Rosso Boss previously sounded upbeat about the young Russian's Formula One future.
"Red Bull had hoped the return to Toro Rosso would embolden Kvyat, relieving the pressure on him," the source is quoted as saying. "It was expected that he would score points regularly and become an example for (Carlos) Sainz."
"But in the last seven races, Daniil appeared very uneasy against his team mate, and the most recent setbacks seem to have finally convinced Helmut Marko to not renew the contract," the source added.
Pierre Gasly, who currently sits third in the GP2 standings, is expected to replace Kvyat at Toro Rosso while the Russian has been linked with a switch to Williams.
