Max Verstappen had a quiet start to the Hungarian Grand Prix weekend, finishing sixth and fourth in the first two free practice sessions.
Despite finishing behind team mate Daniel Ricciardo in both sessions, the Dutch driver was pleased with how his day went.
"I’m fairly happy after the first day", Verstappen told his official website after second practice. "We’ve taken our time and the long runs went really well. The balance of the car and the tyres feel good. We can improve in the shot runs but I’m confident we will. We’re not too far of Mercedes and we’re fighting Ferrari. Now we’ll work hard to close the gap to Mercedes. Second row on the grid should hopefully be possible."
"Of course there is a gap with Mercedes," he said. "Of course you always want more, but this is where we stand at this moment."
"I hope this weekend we can be the second team behind Mercedes."
