Sebastian Vettel denies Mercedes switch rumours

Sebastian Vettel has said that there is no truth to the rumour that he will leave Ferrari for Mercedes in 2018.

Red Bull team principal Christian Horner said that he expects Vettel to leave the Italian team amidst a slump in form which has seen the team fail to win a race this year, despite promising they would challenge Mercedes of the the championship.

Vettel however denied the allegation, insisting that he hadn't even spoke to Horner about the subject.

"It's interesting that he knows that without speaking to me," he said. "There's nothing in it. We are all highly motivated to ensure that Ferrari gets back to the top."

He also rubbished rumours that current technical director James Allison was set to be ousted.

"The media prefers to talk about the negatives rather than the positives," he said. "All this 'Everything is crap and we have to change everything and throw everyone out' doesn't come from us, it comes from what is written down."

Ferrari "have not been in contact" - Brawn

Meanwhile, Ross Brawn has moved to quash another rumour surrounding Ferrari, insisting that the team has not approached him.

Paddock speculation has singled out Brawn as the man to turn around Ferrari's fortunes and it was said that the team were looking to appoint him on a consultancy basis.

But Brawn has said that he is happy with his life outside Formula One, and Ferrari have made no attempt to acquire his services.

"There is nothing to report about Ferrari. They have not been in contact with me," the former Ferrari and Mercedes man told Bild. "I am happy with my life and have found nothing that will change my plans."

Ferrari driver Kimi Raikkonen also poured cold water over the talk,placing his confidence in the current team.

"Although we are not where we would like to be, we have a great team," he said. "There are no magic tricks in formula one that can change everything overnight."

"We need to have confidence that what we are doing as a group is right," he added.

Vettel doesn't need to show his trophies to prove anything, he had proven his worth long ago, even if he had only two titles to his name he is the best best driver in F1 at this time simply by pure racecraft and what he had shown over the years. Of course he does, Merc have signed Rosberg until 2018, you told us that in the first story today

Vettel does not have to worry about 2018. With his skills he will get a good seat if he is in need for one. One of the benefits of having a few championships in his pocket. :)
