Red Bull Racing team principal Christian Horner believes that Sebastian Vettel could make a sensational switch to Mercedes in 2018.

The German, who won four world championships for Red Bull moved to Ferrari at the beginning of 2015, but his former boss thinks that he is uncomfortable at the Italian team.

"I have the feeling that Seb is a bit rattled," Horner told Sport Bild. "I know from personal experience that he has to feel good in order to perform well. And I'm not sure whether he likes (Ferrari president) Sergio Marchionne's pressure."

"I can well imagine that in 2018 Seb will switch to Mercedes if he doesn't start making progress with Ferrari," he added.

However, former Toro Rosso co-owner Gerhard Berger shot down the suggestion, insisting that Vettel would be fully committed to Ferrari.

"I know him from the Red Bull days and he is a true leader," he told Italian newspaper Corriere della Sera. "He never loses heart."

  • Seb will leave if he sees the key engineers who are needed to make progress aren't signed up with Ferrari for the near to medium term to ensure that atleast some sort of progress is achieved.

If James Allison is truly leaving (I doubt it) then Seb will be looking to leave for sure. Maybe even back to RBR if RBR consistently is ahead of Ferrari come next year. Drivers are not a one man army, they cant show anything without the right set of engineers working on the development of a solid car.
