Max Verstappen didn't manage to finish the Grand Prix of Bahrain. It was his third retirement of the year out of four races. His father and former Formula 1 driver
Jos Verstappen was pretty clear talking to the Dutch media after the race.
He points his finger to engine manufacturer
Renault. Jos Verstappen: "During the second lap, Max got problems with the electronical parts of the engine, the ERS system. The engine lost power, Max was told to put all the settings in safe mode so the engine lost it's power, the battery was not working and all the other electronic parts of the engine. After that we also lacked top speed."
"As a result Renault decided to get him into the pits for a stop, which didn't went well. It was a last-minute call and the tyres were not ready."
It's pretty clear the problems of Renault are far from over. The father of the 17 year old said: "This is a weekend to forget pretty quickly. It's clear that something needs to happen in this team, specially on the engine side because this is not good. First, we need to finish races before we start talking about improvements on the car."
