Felipe Nasr tipped to replace Raikkonen at Lotus for 2014

Felipe Nasr is set to be a serious contender for a Formula One seat next season. Sources from Brazil have told F1Today.net that the Brazilian driver has financial backing worth 15 million dollars. Something that sounds like music in the ears of a lot of Formula 1 teams, like Lotus.

The British team lose current star driver Kimi Raikkonen to Ferrari in 2014. The Finnish driver switched earlier this month to his former team where he became World Champion in 2007. As Raikkonen leaves, and still being unpaid for his job this year, Lotus is struggling to find money on the market. The team is not in a position to decline a driver with the financial backing of Nasr, which gives the current GP2 driver a dream F1 seat. Nasr and Lotus have already been talking for some time, with Lotus having said they will decide within the next few weeks who will be Raikkonen's replacement.

Also in the running for a seat at Lotus is fellow countryman Felipe Massa. While Nasr has the bag with a lot of money, Massa has the support of Formula 1 supremo Bernie Ecclestone. Another sign which we will see at least one Brazilian driver on the grid next year also comes from Brazil. The Brazilian television network Globo announced this week they will broadcast all the Grands Prix next year. Without having at least one Brazilian on the grid, it’s not interesting for TV Globo to buy the expensive airing rights of Formula 1.
